The Arkane Studios and Ubisoft classic Dark Messiah of Might & Magic was originally released 20 years ago, and now a new overhaul mod is on the way for modern platforms.
It will bring full Linux and Windows 64-bit support, with updated rendering tech and bigger level limits all using Valve's Source Engine. You'll need to own the original game on Steam to play it.
More from the Steam page: "Dark Messiah: Community Edition combines the best aspects of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (Classic) and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic Elements, restoring cut-content, quality of life features like first-class controller support and achievements, but most importantly bringing a renewed Multiplayer component, now utilizing Steamworks for clean hosting and P2P connection capabilities, featuring console exclusive maps and modes. Best of all: every piece is unified. What you see in Singleplayer is accessible in Multiplayer, and visa-versa!"
It will also be a big boost for modders with support for Steam Workshop.

Not only is it the 20th Anniversary of Dark Messiah, but it is also the anniversary of the day wiltOS Technologies was officially created. It's kind of fitting. Arkane and Valve have been monumental influences on my journey as a developer, engineer, and person. When you hear the teams who worked on these games talk about what they went through to bring their vision to life, it is nothing but inspiring and a demonstration of perseverance and sacrifice in some cases.
It's been 6 years since I started reverse engineering Dark Messiah with a single task of getting co-op working so I could play it with my friends. There were moments where I was thinking of stopping because of how much work it started to add up to, but once I started talking about it others who were just as passionate about this game started popping up and throwing their support, both in kindness and in time. The Community Edition team is a product of the community I had the luxury of meeting. Even those I speak to now are some of the most passionate people I've seen about this game, that know the inner workings better than I do, and if Arkane could see each of them their heart would surely flutter. And this doesn't even include the AMAZING people at Ubisoft who have stood up to keep this game alive, in no small part thanks to the community rallying and producing the momentum and volume to allow us to be heard.
It's incredible to think that 20 years ago a game was made and its still kicking with a dedicated community, who are themselves fighting every day just to PLAY the game! The Community Edition team wanted to do something special, and we were ambitiously trying to have a release soon, but as you'd expect we can't control everything. However, in honor of this day, we decided it's time to start getting this in people's hands so we can build it the way it was meant to be built: together
As a result, the Community Edition's Steam page is up: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5016100/Dark_Messiah_of_Might_Magic_Community_Edition/
While it may not say download now, you'll be seeing more announcements this week with some more exciting news! Make sure you put in a wishlist and follow for it 😉
Thank you everyone for your support and understanding on this journey, and I'll ping everyone again soon.
