Post news Report RSS Never expected news after almost 9 years? Due to…

Due to expansive growth of AI/LLM and agents technology the Run3 Game Engine is reborning and is currently under major update development. The newest Ogre3d, macOS, Linux ports are coming. I also plan Android ports and to develop new, smaller games(demos-preferrably) on the new engine.

Wow!
It was longer than I expected! 🙃
Almost 9 years passed, isn't it?
For those, who are here for the first time:
Run3 is the embodiment of that late-2000s dream of creating your own game entirely from scratch. Most projects like this eventually died out. Run3 survived, and several games were actually released using it. Nevertheless, its development had been at a standstill since 2017.
Run3 is built on top of several libraries, including Ogre3D as its graphics backend, OpenAL/Audiere for audio, and Newton Game Dynamics for physics (now replaced by Bullet). It also has its own dedicated library for character AI, AIR3.
Unlike many similar projects, Run3 actually made it to real game releases, including The Long Way (plus two demo versions) and Infinitum Gyrationis - indie projects developed by our team, SGL Team. All of the games were released for free.
The engine itself is released under the MIT License, and after a nine-year stall, it is now under active development once again.
Just to clarify: Run3 initally was in development since2009! It has few games already released.
But now it took me around just 2 weeks to port certain maps from "The Long Way" game and the overall engine to completely new frameworks - and modern game engine programming standards.
You may hate LLMs but this performance is insane.
Few screenshots of "Run3 V2" (working name) are below - as example, the biggest and the most complex engine game "The Long Way" is used.
Looking very outdated, is it? Exactly - that's because the render/lighting pipeline is not finished. However now we have:
- - Portable crossplatform engine
- - New, Bullet physics engine instead of Newton GD/OgreNewt
- - Last version updated Ogre3d (not OgreNext, but anyway - I plan to support it)
- - D3D11 support
- - Significant performance improvement
All this was done in last 2 weeks.
I'll focus on lighting very soon!
There was no any development for 7-8 years.
There is a number of other game engines, why choose Run3 - it is very simple in its architecture. I highly referred Source engine while making it- as a fan of HL/HL2.
