A Certain Dark Side Item Volume 7 Releases October 9, New Anime Commercial

Dengeki Bunko has announced that Volume 7 of the A Certain Magical Index spin-off light novel series, Toaru Anbu no Item, will be released in Japan on October 9, 2026, comprising 296 pages.

The volume is written by Kazuma Kamachi, with Nilitsu and Kiyotaka Haimura credited for illustrations. The events take place in late October and seemingly involve the Rank 6 Level 5.

ITEM’s latest assignment is to capture a wanted target alive. After the group corners its target, an outside party interferes and kills it before the mission can be completed. Another conflict is taking place outside Academy City, where Mugino Shizuri’s family becomes involved in a fight against a criminal organization. 

New cover artwork has also been revealed as a Melon Books bonus, depicting Mugino. Moreover, a new commercial for the upcoming anime adaptation has premiered. 

Roughly translated as A Certain Dark Side Item, the light novel currently has six volumes, while the manga has two volumes released.

Item, consisting of leader Shizuri Mugino, Takitsubo, Frenda, and Saiai Kinuhata, has become a fan-favorite group thanks to their recurring presence across Index and Railgun.

The spinoff explores their early days and sheds light on how the team operates before Shiage Hamazura joins during the mainline series.

Toaru Anbu no Item will premiere on October 9, 2026.
