Seoul-based developer YoshiYoshi Studio has announced the single-player science-fantasy JRPG KAELIS: Seraph Protocol, planned to launch for PC via Steam in 2028, while a Kickstarter campaign seeking $27,000 is currently underway.
Players control Kaito, a resident of the city of Kaelis who becomes an Executor at Serenos Academy. The academy investigates phenomena known as Noise, distortions connected to the energy called Lumina. Kaito works alongside Guardians from the academy as cases gradually lead him toward information surrounding the city and his own circumstances.
Three Guardians have been introduced so far: Hoshimiya Amane, Tsukishiro Reina, and Suiba Kotoha. Players can strengthen Kaito’s relationships with his companions through conversations, academy activities, and story events. Higher affinity can affect combat through coordinated attacks, support actions, and other party interactions.
Battles are turn-based and support parties of up to four active characters. Guardians and enemies are associated with eight Lumina Spectrums: Ignis, Glacies, Fulgur, Terra, Lumina, Umbra, Void, and Aether. Players can study enemy reactions to determine their Spectrum and adjust the party.
Kaito can also use his Executor Device to recover Noise Cores. Back at Serenos Academy, these materials can contribute to Lumina Disc development, facility upgrades, and character progression. The academy has four specialized divisions: combat operations, data and evidence analysis, team support, and Lumina research.
A system called the Armillary Sphere introduces dice rolls during certain major moments, with Kaito’s relationships, gathered information, and earlier decisions shaping the conditions around a roll and how an incident develops.
Outside missions, players can spend time at Serenos Academy, develop their Guardians, and visit different parts of Kaelis, including shopping areas, the city center, outskirts, and locations affected by Noise.
